Praha - I went to Prague for a day

(older)

I went to Prague for a day! It was freezing and snowing, which made walking around difficult and painful, but the city was beautiful. I heard some of the history of the city from Czech residents and it is interesting to hear how many of them despise the tourism. I had a few tell me they preferred communism, because under communism they may have had freedoms taken away but they were not poor. The country has always surrendered easily but this has led to it never being bombed during the World Wars. The architecture is amazing because it is so old ...

There's nothing Golden about this place

(older)

Much as I love the city of Prague, the Golden Lane, on all the tourist itinaries, must be one of the most over-rated places to see. I'd never been there before, as it is part of the entire Prague Castle tour ticket package. As you can see from these snaps, which don't really do it justice, probably beautiful ...

Prague: A Little City With a Big Heart

(older)

The taxi sped past nondescript buildings and wide expanses of green grass on either side of the highway from Ruznye Aiport to the City of Prague. N and I spent much of the half-an-hour feasting our eyes on the trees - they were turning color and the leaves gleamed a brilliant yellow in the early fall sunshine. ...

This is THE window from which the two famous defenestrations of Prague took place! It is inside the Old Royal Palace at Prague Castle.

No Turkey Just Goolash

(older)

The degree of agility that this past week came and went is somewhat disconcerning. Time flies at a breakneck speed that I'm having trouble catching up with. However the...

Corporate Ethics vs Congressional Ethics, There Is a Difference

(older)

There is a sense of absolute wrong about various corporate misdoings and yet, somehow a kind of natural entitlement to money-contributions in the Congress. That’s always seemed strange to me because I would think it would be the other way...

International Gawker Stalker: TomKat, Lievsgiving, Eye Sex

(older)

From east, west, and south, celebs were trotting the globe in holiday style, just as the rest of us were trotting Amtrak or the interstate highway system. First, from the enchanting Orient:Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were holding hands in...

Malcom Tuffin vs. The City of Prague and Folk Art [4]

(older)

The lighting of the giant Christmas tree in Prague’s Old Town Square heralds the joy of the holidays for most of the city’s inhabitants. To Brit Malcom Tuffin, however, it serves as an extremely painful reminder of a literally crippling Christmas past. The City of Prague and the Folk Art...

All dressed up - having a ball in wintertime

(older)

It is officially cold. The high today is 0C (32F) and the five day forecast from CNN repeats like a skipping song, 32/28 32/28 all week long. Saturday, in the midst of the snow and freezing rain which is making November not the most pleasant month of our year, we went out to a dinner ball at one of the...

Mozart's temporary villa

(older)

It doesn't nestle in quite as closely with many of Prague's other attractions, but it is well signposted once you get to the vicinity on foot or by tram. The villa is called Bertramka, and was a 17th century farmhouse, though it doesn't now look at all rural, and housed Mozart while he was working on Don...
