Movin' Right Along (Footloose and Fancy Free!) Part I

The first night we went out to eat, then walked around the Charles Bridge. The next day, we got up, went back to the Charles Bridge and headed up to Prague Castle. Its gates have two titans schooling the heck outta some other guys. The Castle is a city in its own right, being a huge number of buildings all jammed in together. Prague's majestic Castle overlooks the rest of the city from a hilltop on the west bank of the Vltava River. It was founded in the 9th century, though it has been rebuilt and renovated several times over the intervening years. The castle's thick walls enclose a number of interesting sights, including the towering, Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral, which after 600 years of on-again, off-again construction was finally finished in 1929. Our first day abroad was spent in the city of Prague which lies in the Czech Republic. Our memorable tour guide took us around the Jewish Quarter of Prague. Although there are only 2,000 Jews in Prague, their history is well preserved. Prague’s bohemian style architechture was dream-like and combined with our half-awake state, the experience could be described as no less than Kafka-esque. Prague is incidentally the birth place of the surrealist writer, Franz Kafka...

The little town of Roztoky, just a few kilometres north of Prague is a perfect place for a day trip from the city. Its main landmark is the old castle - originally a moated gothic manor house - down by the River Vltava - which houses the Museum of Central Bohemia. It's that time of year again, when men in green stand with cigarettes dangling over baby swimming pools, net in hand, while ladies direct them to the choicest fish for their Christmas dinner.
