There is going to be a fundamental reconstruction of the Charles Bridge, and now you can watch it online, live. At the server of Prague information service (here) it is transmitted by the webcam, placed at the Lesser Town Bridge Tower. The Recostruction is supposed to be finished at 2010.

Galleries and museums in Prague this September

From 11th to 17th September the Chapel of St Anne’s in the St George’s Convent will be closed. Today and tomorrow the National Gallery in Prague will also close the permanent exhibition in the Kinsky Palace in the Old Town Square, as well as the permanent exhibition of medieval art in the St Agnes of Bohemia Convent.  


Prague applied officially for the Olympic Games

Now it is black on white. Yesterday the Mayer of Prague Pavel Bem together with the President of the Czech Olympic Team Milan Jirasek signed the official application for organizing the Olympic Game 2016 in Prague.  


TGM - new exhibition in the streets of Prague

Not so many people like to visit quiet galleries, so what about placing the exhibition in the streets of Prague? That was the idea of Zuzana Brikciusova who decided to prepare an exhibition about the first Czechoslovakian president Tomas Garrigue Masaryk (1850 – 1937) on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of his death.  


Indie Summer Fest in Prague

Festival of Czech indie rock bands will take place in the Parukarka park in Prague on 1 st September. You can spend the whole afternoon there – the bands will play from 1 pm to 10 pm and the admission is free.  


Ban on smoking in Czech trains

Smoking will be absolutely forbidden in Czech trains since December 2007. Last smokers´ compartments, which are still in some express trains, will be abolished. Czech Railways (Ceske drahy, CD) wish to follow the European trend of restricting smoking in public spaces.  


Prague public transport improvements

Compared to public transport in London or Paris, passengers in Prague don´t get enough information about the public transport system. There are no leaflets with maps of metro, for instance, or with tariff rates. Prague Public Transit plans to improve this.  


Imperial Hotel Prague has been restored

Imperial Hotel in the centre of Prague (Na Porici Street), a valuable Art Deco building, has been reconstructed. The hotel, built between 1913 and 1914, was closed to the public for tens of years, now it will open again together with the famous café.  


Festival of silent movies in Prague

Stummfest is not an ordinary film festival: it presents exclusively black-and-white silent movies, some of them rarely screened, accompanied by music. You can see not just Czech, but also German films from the beginning of cinematography there.  


Concert of Gipsy.cz on beach by the river Vltava

Catchy rhythms will sound from the “First Prague´s Beach” in Smichov tomorrow. There will be a concert of Gipsy.cz, the popular Czech band, combining hip hop with Romany music and pop. The band will also introduce its new video there.  


Woodrow Wilson in front of Prague Main Railway Station

Many statues of important personalities, that used to stand in the streets of Prague, have disappeared during the eventful history.However, since 1989, the statues return slowly to their previous places. One of them is the statue of American president Woodrow Wilson, that will stand in front of Prague Main Railway Station again.

In September 2007 Prague will host the international festival of contemporary architecture called Architecture Week 2007. The organizers of this festival want to present the current architecture and living environment to the large public through many attractive activities and presentations. Its other aim is to support further urban development in Prague and to promote Czech architecture.  


Ryanair comes to Prague

Low-budget air carrier Ryanair fly only to Brno’s airport now. Yesterday the representatives of Ryanair confirmed that Ryanair will connect also Prague with Irish capital Dublin from 7th November 2007.

Mattoni Night Grand Prix 2007 in Prague

Mattoni Night Grand Prix 2007 start at 20:00 and 21:00 on 8th September from the Old Town Square. For the first time in history of runs in the centre of Prague, runners will compete at night when the street of historical Prague will be illuminated just by street lamps.

The Rolling Stones come back to the Czech Republic

It will be already the fifth concert of The Rolling Stones in the Czech Republic. All the previous concerts (in 1990, 1995, 1998 and 2003) were held in Prague. Their first concert in the Czech Republic took place in Prague stadium Strahov. The concert was not only a great music event but also a symbol of changes in the political system of the country.
